DUNEDIN JOCKEY CLUB.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Dunedin Jockey Club was held on the 31st ult., when there Were present: Mr J. Stephenson, vicepresident (in the chair) ; Messrs Wilson, Cook, Meenan, Hazlett, and Gourley. Tho sub-committee appointed to go through the proposed alterations to the trotting rales, as forwarded by the New Zealand Trotting Association, brought up their report, which was as follows : — Your committee beg to report that they have gone carefully through the printed proposed rules and alterations as forwarded by the New Zealand Trotting Association. They find that most of the alterations are in the rules of management, those regarding trotting being comparatively few. To some of these they have agreed, and in others recommended alterations. They strongly recommend that the following rules of racing, <fee. be adopted by the association :—: —
"Rule7SA. Governing the time on which defaulters may be put on the forfeit list for nonpayment of fees. "Rule 21. Giving the association power to prevent more than one club using the same course except by special license. "Rule 22. Giving the association power to decline to pass programmes unless same are accompanied, if required, by a balance sheet showing that moneys received have been expended in accordance with this rule." " Rule 23. Stating that the amount of added money must be at least equal to the amount received from the totalisator at last corresponding meeting." They recommend that poWer be given to substitute a local delegate. Tnat the rules governing the use of and issue of tickets from the totalisator, the same as at present in force by tho metropolitan clubs, be adopted and printed as part of the association rules. They object to a rule giving power to alter a horse's name for the sum of ss, and recommend that the lowest amount be L 2.
They object, in the interests of country clubs, to any alteration being made in present rule No. 2 as to payment of annual subscriptions by clubs only including one or more trotting events in their programme*
It Was resolved that the report be adopted, and that the club delegate use every endeavour to carry out the suggestions contained therein. The Secretary reisorted that on the last day of the races his attention was called to a man named Alexander Smith, who was infringing the law ; that, by instruction of the stewards, the man was turned off the course ; that he returned to the course just at the conclusion of the races, got a mob together and addressed them, and caused a great disturbance, which was ultimately quelled by the police in attendance at the course. — It was resolved that Alexander Smith be disqualified and warned off the Dunedin course and all courses where the rules of racing are in force.
