WAIKOIKOI.
February B.— On Friday evening the sunset was peculiar, the sun as he sank to rest having the appearance of a perfect ball of fire. Saturday was a lovely day, but towards night the sky became black with clouds, the air turned cold, there was a clap or two of thunder, and then down ciime the rain. It has rained pretty steadily until this morning with a heavy east wind. Witli the long spell of dry weather, and the heavy traffic on the roads lately, the dust was lying very thick. Since the rain sloppy is no name for the state of things. Chops.— The rain and the heavy winds have seriously damaged the grain crops. The turnip crop wifl be immensely benefited, and as one man puts it, it will spoil all the " wee ones."
