THE RAILWAY SERVICE.
On the north line, the breaches at Bushcy, Otepopo, and Maheno were repaired yesterday in time to let the express train get through from Christchurch, and the ordinary running on the main line will be resumed to-day. On the Palmerston-Dunback line, also, the necessary repairs have been completed, but on the Oamaru-Kurow line the service is interrupted between Borton's and Hakateramea.
The Otago Central line has had the obstructions removed from it, and the line from Clarkesville to Lawrence has also been cleared so that trains were able to pass up and clown it yesterday. The line between Mosgiel and Outram is still under water. A considerable liortion of the main south line between Greytown and Henley is submerged, and it is feared that it will be impossible to restore communication before to-morrow night. It is hoped that the 4.20 p.m. train to Clinton will get through to-morrow, and that the express from the south will similarly be able to pass. The coach with mails which left Milton for Mosgiel on Monday night was unable at that time to get through on account of a break in the ordinary road, but it reached Mosgiel yesterday.
