EMIGRATION AND IMMIGRATION.

Wellington, February 4. A return published in to-night's Gazette shows that the number of arrivals in the colony during the year ended 31st December last was 14,431, and the departures 17,629, leaving an excess of emigration over immigration of 3198. Of the arrivals 2435 were from tho United Kingdom, 6G96 from New South Wales, 3712 from Victoria, and 389 from Hawaii and tho South Seas ; while in the list of departures are included 1705 to the United Kingdom, 9782 to New South Wales, 3841 to Victoria, and 1159 to Tasmania. At a meeting of tho Auckland branch of tho Irish National Federation a motion was proposed deploring the intemperate language used during the quarrel between tho two sections of the Irish party at Home. The debate on tho question was adjourned.
