THE WOOL SALES.

London, February 2. At the wool sales crossbreds maintained prices firmly, but the other sorts are weak. February 3.

The better classes of wool are unchanged, but medium and inferior qualities are fetching fully 5 per cent, below the prices which ruled at tho December wool sales. The present series close on the 20th inst.

February 8. Wool is unchanged, but the bidding is spirited.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received the following telegram from their London office, dated 2nd inst. :—" Wool : The sales progress firmly. Since close of last sales washed merino super, scoured merinrf snper, washed merino medium and inferior, scoured merino medium and inferior, and fine greasy crossbred are ,U1 to Id per lb lower; and medium ami inferior greasy merino have declined per lb. Other descriptions unchanged. The American demand for fine greasy crossbred has fallen off. The total quantity catalogued to date is 76,000 bales, and the total quantity withdrawn to date is 6000 bales."

Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co. hayp received the following cablegram from their London house (Messrs Sanderson, Murray, and Co.), dated 3rd inst. : — " Ten per cent, bought in. Market continues weak and is irregular, except for extra good greasy crossbred. Compared with closing rates of last London sales, inferior greasy merino has declined 5 to Ij, per cent." Messrs Dalgety and Company have received the following cablegram from their head office, dated London, 6th February : — " Prices of good merino wool are maintained, but faulty and inferior merinos are easier."
