FRUIT AND PRODUCE REPORT.
Messrs Thomas Paterson and Co., fruit and produce agents, Manse street, report January 13 :— Fruit : Market is dull this week after the holidays, buyers only purchasing small lots. Shipments have been lighter. A good demand exists for prime eating plums and other dessert fruits, but cooking kinds have little or no inquiry. Peninsula and Oamaru kidney potatoes have come in freely ; consequently prices are much weaker. Oranges, 10s to 14s ; lemons, 16s : pines, none; plums, 4s to 6s per case; apples, l£d to 2Jd ; apricots, 4id to 5d ; peaches, s£d to bjd ; pears (very few to hand), 2jd to 3d ; gooseberries, no sale ; black and red currants are wanted ; raspberries, sd. Our quotations are wholesale only. Eggs plentiful. Fresh butter in good supply. Prime salt has good demand at 7d to 8d ; inferior unsaleable. Bacon : Rolls, 5d to 6d ; hams, 7d to Bd. Pigs : A demand springing up. Cheese : Akaroa, 4d to 4Jd ; factory, 4d to sd. Honey, 4£d to sd ; in comb, 6d ; sections, 8s per dozen. Potatoes : Peninsula kidney, L 3 to L 3 10s ; Oamaru, L2ssto L 3. Onions: Old, 8s 6d; new, 10s. Cocoanuts, 9s ; peanuts, 2}d ; desiccated cocoanuts, 7d to Bd. Landing to-morrow ':— 3o cases bananas, 50 cases apples, 20 cases tomatoes from Auckland.
