MACRAES.
January 11 — The annual sports meeting of the Macraes Amateur Athletic Club was held on Boxing Day, and proved, as is generally the case, a thorough success. The pleasure of those present was marred by the heavy thunderstorm that came on about 4 o'clock, and greatly interfered with the day's sport. Our young local sportsman was rather too much for the other competitors, some coming from Palmerston and the adjacent neighbourhood. Indeed, this young man does great credit to Macraes, and in a few years, providing he continues to improve, he will he able to taKe his part at any of the gre.it meetings. Appended is a list of the different events :— Open Scratch Race, 100 yds.— J. Slater 1, J. Highet 2. Four others started. Handicap for Boys under 15 years, 220yds.— E. Laverty (10yds) 1, J. Ball. — A ball under the auspices of the A. A. Club was held on Monday evening, and all who attended will agree with me in saying that it was one of the most pleasant evenings ever spent in the schoolroom anionfj the young people. Refreshments were provided in abundance, and all present were highly pleased with the night's amusement, the company breaking up at 4 in the morning. Excellent music was supplied by Messrs Griffin and Elsom, while Messrs H. Clark and F. Klsoni performed the duties of M.O.
