OTAGO AGRICULTURAL AND
The judges of the class for ale and porter at the recent show of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Association have made the following awards :—: — Light ales, not exceeding 221b gravity. Five entries— William Strachan 1, James Speight and Co. 2 and 3. The judges considered this a very excellent class. Medium ale, not exceeding 251b gravity. Five entries— James Speight and Co. 1, William Strachan, 2 ; M. Joel 3. All the beer in this class was in good condition, but two of the exhibits were in defective casks. Heavy ale, not exceeding 301b gravity. Four entries— James Speight and Co. 1 and 3, William Strachan 2. The judges considered all the ale in this class very good. Porter, not exceeding 271b gravity. Five entries — M. Joel 1, James Speight and Co. 2 and 3. Ale, bottled. Two entries— M. Joel 1, William Strachan 2. " Both excellent beers," is the judges' minute. Porter, bottled. Two entries— M.
