TO THE YELLOW PRIMROSE.

In th-j zoy scales of mooking, sweet uncertainty, Tears' chalice-fathomed shafc, pierced from smile's quiver, Woof, warp, and web, commingling brief in ecstasy. Clippings from vagrant glories to compile one weather. Low down here, gulfed in ainuous rivalry Of freshened oreek and gully, echo worn; Meaven seems so near aa to bathe the cheek In Love's ascription>from the flowers new born. Heaven breathes around us, in her offerings ; In our heart'n fulneßs we feel wondrous pure; The chord in tremulous vibration huug, With each sweet ttemor weakened force endures. Spring I And our hearts in some unquestioned way Breathe out a mild ascription 10 their God. What string hung listless on the cold, mute frame, But will respond with Power's awakening chord ? Earth shadow shaped a weak, chill stretch of gloom, Rests 'neath tthe mirage vanity empowers, 'Tis v* vain egotists, tie we who near, Not heaven who stoops to bleßs us, through the flowers. Lown down, among the faded wealth of years; And cradled deep amid thy trestled leaves,— With the sweet breath of Nature, faintly pressed With jewelled orispness, on the reeds and trees. We find thee in thy richness paly sweet. Cold, paasiortlessly sweet, thou flower of earth gems mine, Stealing the mellow purity from Night's Love's cheek, To sleep upon the passing sweet, of thine, Starry eyed exile from another world, imbuiDg us with thoughts, not all of earth, Pure tribute of great Nature's tenderness, Heaven stoops to bless us through thy fragile birth. —Mvta.
