At a meeting of the committee of the North Ofcago Jockey Olub this evening it waa decided to hold a Spring meeting on Thursday and Friday, October 22 and 23, The following programme (whioh will be sent to you as an advertisement in a few d#ys) was adopted : —First day : Handioap Hurdles, two miles, 30aov8 ; Maiden Piate, one mile, 2530v5 ; Spring Handicap, one mile and a-half, 7530V8 ; October Handicap Trot, three miles, 30*ov« ; Novel Handioap, six furlongs, 30sova ; Flying Handicap, six furlongs, 40sovs ; District Handicap, seven furlongs, 25) ova, Second day : Spring .Jiandicap Hurdles, one mile and a-half, 30jovs ; President Handicap, one mile and a-quarter, 50aovs ; Ladies' Bracelet Handicap (district), one mile, 2530vs j Spring Handioap Trot, two miles, 25aovs ; Waifcaki Plate Handioap, six furlongß, 40aovt ; Hack Selling Race, four furlongs, 15iovsj Consolation Handioap Trot, one mile and a-half, 20aovs ; Consolation Handicap, one mile, 20aova. The above events run into a total of 480jovs for the two days' races. It waß deoidsd to enlarge the boundaries of the district raceß by taking in the counties of Maniofcoto, Waikouaiti, and Waimate. This is a move in the right direction, and will allow all the good " sports " who live on the north side of the finest trout river in the world a chance of having a cut in at everything on the programme. I hope the said " aporta " will take thia gentle hint when drawing up their next programme, and return tbe compliment by allowing all horaesin thia county (Waitakt) to enter for everything on their programmea. Mr J. Curran's E afield left thia afternoon by train to take part in the Hunt Club meeting on Friday. This Bprinter is in pretty fair niok, and with hia weight (7 0) will out out a very merry six furlongs in the Shorta Handicap.
Another trotting matoh between tie two cream coloured ponies, owned respectively by Messrs Sewell and Wise, took plaoa laat week. A gentleman who deals in tea/ and hails from the Southern Edinburgh, put up the " sugar " on Mr SeweU'B pony (Safe Cure) and laid Mr Wise a level £20 that Safe Cure could give Watchbreaker lOaeo in a mile, Geordie Hobertson to have the mount on Watchbreaker, while Mr Sewell rode hia own pony. There was a large gathering to see the spin. Watchbreaker started well and ran, without skip or break, to tbe finish, winning by about 300 yds. Safe Cure threw a Bhoe and refused to trot, consequently the affair was a very hollow win for Watchbreaker. After the conclusion of the match Mr Wise offered to back hia pony to trot Safe Cure on level terms ; but ao far the challenge baa not been accepted. Last year's New Zealand Oup winner (Wolverine) has been sold by Mr J, P. Reid— I heard for 200aovs— to Mr Lawson, who intends to travel the horse in this district. Mr Sewell's new purchase, Rifleman (Musket —Queen Mab) is, I believe, to do Btud duty in Mamototo Oounty,
