VICTORIAN ROYAL AGRICULTURAL EXHIBITION.

We have culled the following from the Australasian of 291;h August with reference to the New Zealand stock at the Victorian Royal Agricultural Exhibition :—

11 We are glad to see that the New Zealand bred cattle are to the fore again. The bull Hover a Blink, bred by Mr Wm. Cowan, Tumai, and shown by Mr K. B. Fergnsson, Waitati, gained second prize. Bull Bruce, bred by Messrs A. and J. M'Farlane, of Ayrshire Park, Taieri, gained third prize in aged class. The cow Rosina 11, bred by Messrs A. and J. M'Farlane, Ayrshire Park, Taieri, gained first prize as best cow in milk and champion of the show. The cow Russell, bred by Messrs A. and j! M'Farlane, Ayrshire Park, Taieri, gained first prize as cow in calf. This very handsome cow has taken first prize in this class three years in succession. Cow Mattie, shown by Mr K. B. Ferguson, and bred by Messrs A. and J. M'Farlane, gained second prize. MrK. B. Fergusson was placed Becond with Beauty 11, by Cock-a-Bendy. She was scarcely in show condition, and her quarter did not please some of the

judges outside the ring. Mr Archibald M'Kay, Sandymount, Otago, Peninsula, showed a small but particularly neat heifer, bat she did not attract the judge's notice. Messrs A. and J. M'Farlane got a v.h.c. for an extremely nice heifer, bred by Ireland Brothers, Mount Cargill. Some excellent specimens of dairy cattle were shown, many of them being Ayrshires of the highest quality— at most shows would take a high place in the Ayrshire classes. In this Messrs A. and J. M'Farlane's Beauty II was placed third. In prizes fer dairy cows in calf, Mr John Russell, Invercargill, was placed third, with a beautiful specimen of the breed. The three yearling heifers, shown by Mr J. Grant and Mr W. M'Nab, of Victoria, attracted great attention, and gained first, Becond, and third prizes." These three youngsters are by Bruce, bred by Messrs A. and J. M'Farlane, showing that the New Zealand cattle are holding their own in the sister colony.
