This is what John L. Su'livan, who has jusfc passed through Auckland from 'Frisco for Sydney f says regarding his pro^pacts:— "Pugilism am in it with acting. I've bad ago at bafch profusions, and everything is in favour of the stage as regards the easiest-, way of making a living. There is more money in it, and it is more of a gentleman's life. The man who follows the r.'Dg as a business spends the best part of his years in training, where he has to deny himself every luxury, and if he wins at the end the big money he makes is soon gone, and the old process has to be repeated. It is the same everywhere. The-fighter does the work, and the other fellows make the money. My engagements with Mr Harrison will hold me for 18 months. After I finish my engagement here I sail for America. lam bound by contract not to enter into any negotiations for a contest now. It would mean to me the loss of a big sum of money, much more than I could earn by any one victory in the ring. Some of my pugilistic friends know this, and that is what probably makes them so brave. When my season with 1 Honest Hearts and Willing Hands ' is finished, and there are any champions of the world lying around loose I may have time to inspect them."
