TAIERI BEAC

July 20.— The weather broke last Thursday, and we have not had a fine day since, although it looki a little better to-night. If It e'ears up the farrnur3 will go a-head with their ploughing, as some of them got far behind wi. h if, duri-ig the Iste fr >sts. We have had fhe hardest frost and the driest winter experienced for s ime yews. Everybody has bien complaiuing of tho want of water, and that sounds strange in the midd'e of winter. If the dry spall had lasted much longer there would have been a water famine. Wow when we have got plenty people are not satisfied.

Manganese.— The Taieri Beach Manganese Company have stopped operations for a time. They have sent away a good few tons lately. Is would ba^e bt-en a good ttiing for tbe district if they had kept going, as it gave work to a good few hands. The sawmill fs the only industry that does any way well here, and it is always kept busy. Bunny.— T&e rabbits are getting a good clearing out here. Everybody is going fsr them with traps, and I think that does more good than the poison. Anyhotr It gives mote satisfaction to anyone engaged in the work, fir when poison is used not half the ikins are secured, while with the trap both the skins and the carcasses are good ani th«y are all got. A good few hundred p tfr have b^on sent to tho taotory from this d'striefc.

Pir«T. The punt at the Taierl Mouth la in rather a bad way for traps going across jutt now. One of the approaches is e»nded up. and they can't get the punt within 20yds of th» stage. Tint makra it very awkward. It {• very steep for anyone going in or out. and if anyone wishing to cross is not the -a at certain times he will have to wait ti!l the next tide.
