LAWRENCE.
July 28. — The weather, which for the laßt few weeks bad been very dry, with sharp, heavy frosts, thereby retarding all mining aud farming operations, has now changed, and* steady rain set in, whioh will be a great boon to the country generally. During the frosty weather Bkating was greatly indulged in at a large dam at the head of Gabriel*, and all the available skates were In requisition to supply thoie who wished to indulge in this pleasant recreation. Dancb.— The first of a series of fortnightly winter dances took place in the Town Hall on Thursday evening, when over 30 couples were present, and a very pleasant evening was spent. The society consists of nearly 40 members. Several ladies and gentlemen kindly contribute the music, and light refreshments are dispensed during the evening. The committee of management consists of Messrs M. Praer (obairman), A. Morris, U. Potts, Washen, J. J. Woods, and Leary (hon. secretary and treasurer). SAiKyABDP.— Mr J. '.Thompson, is erecting large and improved ealeyards within the boiough, and these will be opened in August, and should prove a great boon to settler* and others wbo wish to buy and dispose of stock
