LONGRIDGE.
■ Junb 29.— 1 notice the grain-carting season has at last come to an end. The enormous quantities of grain that for ' many week* pa«fc lined tbe Balfour ilding for almost its entire, length'have disappeared, and the place' has assumed its , normal .quiet aspect. During the early part of the Reason trucks were scarce, and 1 tarpaulins scarcer, but as |the ieason advanced'things becamn worse, and grumbling became loud and deep. About the beginning of this month Mr Garston, traffin manager, o'ame to B&Uour and interviewed the farmers. ' He 'told them that the fault lay with, the grain me/chants,' who. could, not empty the' trucks as fast as they came in, but many of them were adding to their stores, and matters would booh be righted; However^ that was pooroonsolation, for farmers wanted to 'get their grain "away as the roads' were netting I)ad'. 'All Mr Garaori could do was to promise he would send plenty of covers, so , that the gralucbuld tie Kept ary until trucks, were , available. This promise y he kept in a most liberal ? tanner. But'the question naturally arises, Why • ere covers so scarce in the beginning of the season when they could be supplied by the truck load after MrGarson'syisit?' .' , ' . . j. 4 i ThS Wkathkh inibhe beginning of the month was vert wintry. We had a light fall of snow, followed by' considerable rains In the first week: Since then (b has been dry with a few frosty nights, .but only occasionally severe enough to stop the plough.
