DIPTON.

Juire 29.— The weather continues fine, but frosty. The roads are getting into a very bad state owing to •0 much traffic In the shape of carting, grain dray and waggon loads of whioh are.oontinually going by. For a while the railway authorities refused'to book any -more grain to the Bluff, all the stores there being blocked, and I heard there were some 90 trucks loaded and standing about the Bluff, with' nowhere to put it. A lot has been shipped during the last few days, however, and further supplies are. now being sent down. Threshing still goes on, but, a week or 10 days will see the end of it for this Mason. iHQOTBr.— An Inquiry was to have been held on Baturday last into the burning of the Bailway Hotel, but owing to the lengthy sitting of the Supreme Court in Inveroargill it was adjourned till today, at 10 a.m. It will probably oooupy the whole of the day, as I understand a good many witnesses are to be examined. Mr Bawson, 8.M.. presides, and alury of six are empannelled. Tbe oldlloensee, Mr Gormon, sells his remaining effects on Tuesday next by auction, with the intention of leaving the. district. Mr Ayling, the applicant for a new license, comes here this week, and will superintend the erection of the new place, which I believe is to be finished in nine weeks. The Book Fiknd.— Meetings have been held here every now and then 'in connection with this obnoxious individual, and arrangements made to give him, or them, as the case may be, a warm and proper reception ; but so far our preparations have all ended in disappointment. The feast is ready, but the gnetts won't come. However, this week we received a knock at the outer gate in the shape of a free copy of the Otago Daily Times of tbe 4th inst., containing the case of J. D. Hutton, marked in blue penoil, posted to each' victim. We are consequently In a flutter of excitement, not at the decision of Mr B. H. Oarew-^oh, dear, no. c We are more in touch , with your Otakon" correspondent of the 25th inst., and are only anxious to have everything iv readiness and eager for the results.
