PORTOBELLO ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Portobello Ro&d Board was held on Saturday, and attended by Messrs Dickson, Cross, Caaeels, Seaton, Lewie, M'Taggart, Anderson, and Hinckley. In the absence of the chairman, Mr Diokson was voted to the chair. Mrs Fraser wrote intimating that she had sold her property in block IV, Portobello, to Mr John Sheppard, and the board should look to him for the rates —Resolved— " That Mrß Fraser is liable for the present rate, the collector to take the necessary steps to recover the same." Mr H. Richmond wrote that he had disposed of sections 6 and 7, block I, Portobello, to Mr D. Seaton, and asked that Mr Beaton's name be placed on the rate bock instead of his^— Received. Mr Turton, district land registrar, requested the board to advise his department in future of the closing of any road in their distriot, bq as to enable him to make an entry of the same.— The clerk was instructed to advise Mr Turton tbat his request will be complied withi The Secretary of the Benevolent Trustees forwarded a statement of those receiving aid in the district.— lt was resolved— <* That the allowance to, those at present receiving aid be continued .for another six months. At this stage of the proceedings the chairman took the chair. Mr Hinckley moved the motion of which he gave .notice—namely, " That §d be levied on all rateable property in the board's district." This was carried by the casting vote of the chairman. — The inspector, in reporting on the road leading to the Maori flats in Wickliff Bay, stated tbat he was of opinion a sod wall next the sea would be useless, and to his mind a stone wall must be built, and whioh would cost about £4 103 per chain. Some of the settlers in the Maori Reserve were present, and maintained that only in certain places was stone necessary, and that the road could be made for tbe half ot the inspector's estimate. — Resolved — " That the. member of the subdivision, along with the inspector, examine the road and report at next meeting." The monthly report of the inspector was adopted, and accounts to the amount of £80 were parsed for payment — It o»as recolved that the ranger's appointment be cancelled, on the ground that he was not attending to his duties.
