Notes from Wakatipu.
(From Our Own CoRKBapoNBEWT.) Arrow, June 18.— A pieoe of ground at Pleasant Greek terrace, comprising about 45 aores, for the cancellation and regrantlng of whlob there were tbree applicants, wat told at pnblio'auotion by.'Mr'M. O'Meara at the courthouse, Queemfcown, on Monday last, the purchaser being Mr O. Miller (on brhalf of Me»rs Davis and Moodte, Melboncne). The price paid was £100. This it the tame ground which wai propoied to be worked by water to be raised in some wonderful way from Stony creek, and upon which Mr Bawlini reported in a manner that called forth ■ome correspondence of an exhilarating nature. Messrs Davis and Moodie having waters to command the ground are, of oonrie, in a position to turn it to account.
Tbe Frankton Beach dredge, which has been making certain Improvements to the machinery, and bat done a great amount of prospecting, it now again on ground that will pay— perhaps better than any yet worked. It appears, however, that the termt of contract for working the Golden Link claim, upon which this dredge has been engaged on tribute, are about to expire, and operations are suspended pending further arrangements. A slight mithap occurred at the Phoeaix mine yesterday. It appears that a plug of dynamite got mixed up in tbe quartz and exploded with the concussion of tbe stamper, blowing the box to pieces and doing damage to the amount of about £60. The Kawarau dredge it now nearlng the ground which is expected to pay well. The dredge is working splendidly, and ii under the personal supervision of Mr W. Jenkins, who 'is devoting oloie attention to the proceedings. The Wakatipu dredge is on good gold, and obtained 240z of gold working over partially worked ground. It is expected that the returns will continue to improve.
The Kawarau dredge recovered Goz of amalgam lost from the boxes by the tilting of the dredges, and it is estimated that about 4oz or soz more were lost that have not yet been got at. This shows that the dredge is on gold. The next washing up will take place on Saturday next. The Gallant Tipperary cleaned up on Saturday, and obtained a cake of 138oz of retorted gold.
