PORTOBELLO.
Juke 2. — The ordinary meeting of the Portobello Boad Board was held on Saturday, the members present being Messrs Maoandrew (ohairman). Cross, Dlckson, Seaton, Anderson, Hinokly, Oassells, Lewis, and M'Taggart. A letter was read from Mr G. M. Barr stating that the alterations in the specifications for tbe proposed bridge across the harbour, as registered by the board, had been made.— Mr W. A. Wilson wrote stating that if tbe board encroached on his property by making the road along the beaoh in Wiokliff Bay he would hold them responsible.— Messrs M'Cartney (3) and Young appeared as a deputation on behalf of some of the ratepayers in Portobello subdivision, requesting the board to inform them if they had granted the Anderson's Bay Steam Ferry Company permission to raise the road across the harbour. The board gave them' to understand that it was not so, but informed them that they had made a good bargain to the district by granting the concessions asked for to the ferry company The deputation withdrew quite satisfied. — Mr Alexander Dick forwarded a petition from the settlers in the Maori reserve asking the board to make the road along the east side of Wiakliff Bay leading to the flats, and stating that they were willing to contribute to the same. The board was of opinion that the petition was jrery Indefinite, as none of the subscribers to tbe petition mentioned what amount they would be willing to contribute to so needful a work. Mr Dick was requested to try and see what he could get from the parties interested in the work, and the board would subsidise tbe same and report at next meeting.— The Commissioner of Police wrote stating that the poltoe wanted to collect tbe dog tax, tbe remuneration to be fixed by the board. (Heceived). — The Inspector's report of work done during the month, and new work proposed by him was adopted.— Mr Hinokly gave notice that he would move at next meeting that a general rate of f d inthe pound on all rateable property in the dlstrlot be made, the same to be paid in one sum by Ist August next.— Accounts to the amount of £87 were passed for payment.
