ISLAND BLOCK EXTRNDED COMPANY.

At a meeting of the directors of the Island Block Bxtended Gold Company last nlghfc the Secretary reported having received advice from Mr Bawllns that the wash-up last week (Saturday) yielded 2loz ef gold. Unfortunately daring tbe progress of the work the raoe carried away, and the supply of wa(sr thus being short, the result was not so favourable as it otherwise might have been. So far about' 60oz of gold has been got since the present mine manager took charge of the claim, and now that tbe plant has been got into something like order, the manager advises that more regular returns may be looked for. The construction of the dam has ° been going on apace, and the wall. 60ft long, is now up to a height of 10ft. The directors intend to have the wall raited to 20ft, which will provide ample storage capaoity for the dry season The mine manager, Mr O. O. Bawllns, reports that work is going on apace, and' that he washed up on Saturday last after four and a-balf days' sluicing for 18oz of gold. At present work does nob go on as uninterruptedly as it desirable owing to defects In the first elevator got for the claim, and on the joint advice of Mr Bawlins and the working manager, Mr Weir, the directors have decided to put in a new elevator, thus ensuring with the full tupply of water that will shortly be available much more regular and continuous work.
