The World's Championship.

WYLLIK FORFEITS TO KEKD (Turf, Field, and Farm.)

Soon after Mr Heffcer made the demand on us, pro Mr Reed and the Ohioago Uhets .and Checker Olub, for the forfeits ia our hands for the world's championship matoh, we wrote, asking him to request Mr Reed to be generous with the " Old Veteran," and not demand the forfeits, but wait until he arrived in England, and then demand -him I to oome to Chicago within the '6o days' time and commence the matoh. To this we received an > answer from Mr Hefter, in which he stated ; " I agree with you, but the other members of the olub strongly oppoie it," giving the main reason for their claim "that Wyllia always insisted on his rights, and they will not accord him any other treatment than what he demands of others.'"

On April 4 we received a demand from Mr Reed, that as Wyllie had not yet [arrived at Chicago, that we send him at onde the forfeits In our hands. Although rightfully belonging to him, we could not very well send them until tbe time had expired> We then appealed to him, that, as Wyllie had eaid he wouid come to Ohioago on 60 days' notice, for him not to press bis demands, but give the " Old Man " another chance to defend bis title and fight for the stakes ;jbut he would not listen to our appjsal, and as the forfeits belooged tot him 'he must have them, and at the same time said he was ready tolmake another matoh with Wvllie ijf he disputed his claim to the title. On receipt £of'tb|s answer nothing was left for Us to do but to forward the forfeit^ to Mr Seed, which we did on April 10. Our sympathy is for Mr Wyllie, but under the termsjof the articles we could not do different from what we have done 1 , and why he should ignore them.fwhen he well knew that they bora] his signature, and were made according to bis demands, and forfeits duly 'posted by the challenger, is what we do not understand. ,
