LAND BOARD.
Ihe weekly meeting of the Land Board on Wednesday was attended by the Chief Commissioner (Vir J. P. Maltland), Messrs J. Duncan, H. Clark, and W. Dallas.
Tigkr Hill.— The Secretary of the School Commissioners wrote forwarding an application received from Mr V. Fyke, on behalf of P. Morriusy, for leave to occupy the echool reserve sections 21 and 24, block 11, Tiger Hill district, as they were under the jurisdiction of the Land Board, and did not appear to have been set aside as school reserves. — Consideration of the matter was deferred for a week.
Tuapbka West. — Surveyor Langmuir havlDg drawn the attention of the cbief surveyor to the desirability of withdrawing from selection section 15, block XIII, and sections 19 and 24, block VIII, Tuapeka West district, on acoount of firewood growing thereon, it was resolved that the sections in question be withheld from sale. Buns 199 a and 199b.— Messrs Murray, Bobertt, and Co. acknowledged the reduction made in the rent a of Buns 199 a and 199b on account of land being taken to form a reservoir. They also asked that tb"e rental) be reduced for the previous half year, as the lake was formed prior to the date of the previous payment. — Beferred to the warden, Clyde, to state, if he cauld, when dam area was covered with water.
Bunb 1990 akd 199d.— 1t was decided that Eune 1990 and 190 D, containing 10,740 acres, be offered as one run at an upset rental of 6d per acre for one year. Oamabu — Eanger Hughan, in reporting on appliottiozi by T. C. Dennison, on behalf of Messrs Keily and Robertson, for portion of road line, blwck 111, Oamaru, and also on anapulioali it by B. Wilson for the same land, stated that; an arrangement had been made that Messrs Kelly and Kobercson should take the northern half and B. Wilson the southern half of the land, lie reoommended the board to agree to
the arrangement. Mr 0. Martin applied, on boh of Mr E. Wilton.— Licenses to issue ai suggested by the ranger, for one year at £3 each per annum. Buns 239 338 c and 338b —A letter (was received 1 from Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co., on behalf of the lessees, intimating that they could not pay any further rents on Ruoa 239 and 3380. With' regard to Bun 338b, which was held in the name of the British Company, they agreed to continue to pay the rent, but if necestary they offered to surrender it in order that it might ba dealt with with the other runs. — It was resolved that the Government; be recommended to accept surrender of the rum, under the exceptional circumstances. Wakatiptt.— A request made by Mr Hosklng, on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company —that possession of Bun 24, Wakatipu, should not be given to Mr John Stronach until valuation for improvements was paid — which was oomidered at a meeting of the board on the 11th inst,, again came up for consideration.— Mr Hosking applied on behalf of the Loan Company, land Mr Mondy for Mr Stronachr—After legal argument between learned counsel, the board disallowed the main part of the claim made by the company for improvements, and the matter was then further adjourned for a week in order that a report might be reoeived from the ranger with regard to a mile of fenoing still in dispute between, the parties. Kubow.— Banger Hughan reportedon an application by Messrs Stout, Mondy, and Sim, on behalf o* W. B. Cairns, for the lease of three acres of the river reserve opposite sections 3 and 4, block IV, Kurow district, and stated that the area applied for crossed a public road on which there was considerable traffic, and he was informed that coal was found in several places near the surface, and If the land were leased for mining purposes it might be a source of danger to the public. He suggested that the application be declined. — A latter was alto received from Mesara Stout, Mondy, ;and Sim reducing the area applied for.— The application was declined. Bun 179. -Banger Hughan, in reporting on «a application by Mr W. L. Simpson, on behalf of the lessee, stated that Mr Buchanan, to whom a licence* was given to cut flax, was ocoupying prat of Rue 179, and recommended that he be removed. Healto stated that Mr Buchanan had erected building* on a piece of land adjoining Carson creek, abonfr half a mile from the land leased, for which'he held* miner's right and a residence area certificate, and that under the circumstances he did not see that anything could bedone;in the matter.-Mr Bnchanan'a occupancy of the land being under a residence area certificate the board Gould not interfere.
Applications fob Bubaz. Land. — The following applications for rural laud on perpetual lease were granted:— Donald Nicolson, aeetion 13, block XIII, Blaokstone ; Donald Niaolson, sections 17, 20, and 22, same block.
B ankxbburn. — An application to transfer deferredpayment license, section 5, blook XII, Bankleburn dlstriot. from Qeorge M'Cormack to Norman M'Oormaok, was approved. APPLICATIONS TO COMPLBTB FITBOHASB.— The following applications to complete purchase on de-ferred-pay a ent sections were approved:— F. H. Wright, section 24, block XII, Mount Hyde; F. W. Hille, section 19, bleck VIII, Kurow; George Archibald and Mary Bankin, section 5, block V, Kurow; William Murcott, section 14. blook XIII, Moerakl; James Crawford, section 50, b100k VI, Glenkenich. Glbnomabu.— The Chief Surveyor submitted a plan of blook VI, Glenomaru district, and reoommended that the lands be dealt with as follows :— Sec. Area.
