CITY IMPROVEMENTS.

Messrs Duthie Bros., drapers, of George street, have just had some alterations and additions made to their premises which, while improving the appearance of the building, will also have the effect of facilitating the carrying on of their business. The chief addition consists of a new show room for ladies, which has been erected of brick at the rear of the old shop. This measures 30ft in length by 15ft in depth, and is divided into three compartments by means of dwarf panel partitions. The central compartment if, properly speaking, the show room. On one side of this there is a ladies' fitting room, and on the other a milliner's room. The whole department is lit by a lantern light, which serves for lighting purposes in the day time, and in the centre of this there is a patent meter gas light for use at night. At the rear of the gentlemen's department some alterations have also been made. The stairs in the .first place have been removed and placed outside of the building in connection with the new addition, and in the place formerly occupied by the stairs blanket bins have been fitted up and carpet and linoleum racks, The old fitting room for

ladies, which was formerly at the end of the gentlemen's department, has Jbeen renovated, and will now be used as a gentlemen's fitting room. Speaking tubes have also been inserted in different parts of the building for the convenience of the employes, and the whole establishment has been painted, decorated, and put in a thorough state of repair. The alterations and additions were designed and carried out by Messrs Clark and Lunn, contractors, of Bond street.
