ANUAL SALE OF SHEEP HORSES AND CATTLE AT DEEPDELL YARDS MACRAES.

Messrs Wkight, Stephenson, and Co. report as follow. a: —We held our second annual sale at the Deepdell Yards (Mr O. S. Hay's) on Thursd»y, I3tb instant. Notwithstanding thut three other tales have been held in districts adjoining Macraes tbli week, there was & very large entry for our this year's sale, olose upon 8000 sheep being penned. SO head ot cattle, and quite as many horses. There wu an unusually .large concourse of buyers, almost all of them bent on purchasing ahoep ; and although every Una offered was told, the number of buyers who went away disappointed at not being sble to supply their wants was very great. Had there been 20,000 abeep submitted to the hammer, instead of 8000, they would have been just as eaally disposed of. That this annual sale is growing in favour with the public may be inferred from the number of shefep brought forwwd to it tbU year, and from the fact that buyers attended from almost every district between Walmate and OtAutau. Excellent prioes were obtained for the sheep, crossbred wethers (two, four, six, and eight-tooth) reaching from 9s to 10s 9d ; do ewes, 6s to 9s 8d ; do lamb», 6s to. 7a 8d ; full-mouthed merino ewes, 2t to 4s 6d; do do wethers, 3s to 4s. Cattle were in poor demand, and only a few pens were sold at 30a to 42s 6d per head for mixed •e^es ia very low condition. The horses offered, some 60 in number, were of very varied character, and only about a of them found new owners. Those sold, however, commanded quite up to Dunedin values, one very handsome four year-old dark brown gelding (the makings of a grand hunter), almost thoroughbred, but with a great deal more bone and substance than most of the horses bred now-a-days, realised £30 10s. This valuable animal was the property of Mr E W. Glendining, of Taieri*ide, and was got by Maribyrnong (imp.), out of Fanny, by Havensworth (imp). Another very meful Btookhorse, by Duntroou, realised £16. and several other commoner sorts from £5 to £10 15s Our sales were on account of Messrs O. 8. Hay (Deen Dell). Duncan Macrae (Macraei).
