The following items are abbreviated from the Roxburgh correspondent's letter in the Tuapeka Times : — Messri Robert Cotton and Samuel Henry paid the Commissioners Flat Company's claim a visit with tbe object of ascertaining how affairs are progressing. After going over the ground, noting what had been done, and weighing carefully the statements made by tbe local shareholders, they concluded tbat very good vo.k had been done so far. They are qutto satisfied that the property is a really good one, and that before long it will yield sub»tantial returns. They do not look for big dividends for some months to come, but are more than convinced that tbe Commissioners Flat Company's claim will come fully up to the expectations of its promoters.—Tbe Amalgamated Company have been very short of water, and have of late only been working an odd day now and again. — The Hercules Company, too, are complaining loudly The Itland Block Kxtended Gold Copapany are bUBy iluioinp away top dirt, having a plentiful supply of water for tbat purpose. It is intended, I bear, to start sinking some time this week. The working management of this olaim has been entrusted to Mr David Weir, who is a thoroughly practical miner, and having served an apprenticeship in hydraulic sluicing at the Island Block Company, is, without doubt, the right man in tbe right place. The company are, indeed, fortunate in securing Mr Welr'a services. .Mr Eawlins. ' the' managing director of the Island Block Extended Company is thorougly ' alive to tbe fact that the mine must be ia 'competent hands if it is to become a dividend-paying concern. 'The Millers Creek dredge is fast approaching completion, and a splendid piece of work it promises to be. The Golden Link Dredging Company, whote claim lies between those of tbe Island Block Extended and Island Block 'Companies, have been successfully floated; Tbe IslandJßlack Company are still unearthing very large quantities "of the precious metal every week. We want a few more such companies in this districc. - A; shareholder in the Beaconsfield mine, Weatport, on Wednesday received from the manager of the company at Westport the .following telegram : — " Beef 2ft. Prospects oonsidtred excellently good. Excellent stone being obtained."
