THE KAKANUI RELIEF FUND.
We have received the following further subscriptions for the Kakanui relief fund : —
An Invercargill telegram states that the Kakanui fund there now amounts to £203 2s Bd, with Borne subscriptions yet to come in. The mayor has been authorised to pay Mra Watson (the only person affected there by the disaster) 10« a week, and it was resolved to call a meeting of subscribers to decide on the future administration after the Dunedin committee report what course they intend to follow. Committees hava been appointed to inquire into the necessities of the claimants, and to devise a scheme for the apportionment of the fund. The cruise of the Hinemoa-has thrown some light on the fate of the Aeeaye There is scarcely any doubt that she went ashore on tbe Snares, and that her crew were unable to land on the precipitous shores. As far as the Kakanui ia concerned all that is known of her is that no trace of her has been found in spite of the rigorous search on all the islands east of Hew Zealand. Six opossumß sent np by the Southland Acclimatisation Society have been liberated on the Strathoonan estate, South Canterbury,
