CRICKET CHATTER.

The great centre of attraction in the cricketing sphere at present is the match now in progress at the Melbourne Cricket ground between the Melbourne and South Melbourne Clubs for the premiership pennant. The M.C.O. were lucky enough to win the toss on Saturday, and by the time stumps were drawn they had put together 161 runs for theloss or on'y four wickets. C. Ross was the principal factor with 40. but he should have been caught twice by Slight and Graham prior to being eventually secured by Kemp off Morris, who ifras bowling splendidly. Bruce was cleaned bowled by Kemp after making 35, whilst Marshall similarly dismissed Trumble with 10 opposite hit name. J. M' ll wraith and SS. Bush (late Hawkeburn boy) are the not-out men, with 33 and 27 to their respeative credits. The South Melbourne fielding was magnificent. Playing for *?ast Melbourne against Blchmond on Saturday, J. Harry, who has made some very large scores this season, attained within three runs of the century before being caught by Over off Haddock. In the same matoh Horan, who, I am sorry to say, strained the muscles of his leg so severely that his ever taking part in orloket again Is highly problematical, put up 50 before also falling a victim to a oatoh by L. Keogh off Turner.- The veteran H. F.Boyle did all " Dutehy's " running for him. On the Adelaide Oval on Saturday some extraordinary batting wan witnessed, On the previous Saturday the South Adelaide team had put together 239 runs against the Norwood. These the latter wiped out with the loss of only two wickets, George Griff en scoring 121 and Lyons 75. The whole total only occupied two hours and a-quarter, 123 runs being compiled iv 61 minutes, whilst the last 57 were scored in 12 minuteß off five overs.
