Weka loit no time in patting six leDgtht* between her and the rest of the field, Kiekio and Cynisca being next, with Dudu at their heels. Sweeping past the stand first time, Oynisca had passed Kiekie, and was a couple of lengths away from Weka, who was taking the field away at a great pace, Dudu in a good position was fourth, and when the mile was traversed Matthews shook ber up, and in a few strides the was in front of Cynisca, and at the heels of Weka. A little later Dndu was at the head of affairs, but at the back of the course gave place to Cjnisca. At the bush Dudu was leading the field, and then Clifford drew the whip on Cynisca without, however, being able to gain on Dudu, who turned for home five lengths to the good. Half way up the straight Clifford saw pursuit was hopeless, and Dndu passed the post hard held two lengths from Cynisca, who was four ahead of Weka; Kiekie a poor fourth, and Recluse laat. The jockey Hodgson, reported to the stewards for the alleged blocking of Boulanger in tha Flying Handicap, has been suspended for the remainder of the meeting It is considered unlikely thab any further action will be taken by Mr Hunter respecting the protest lodged concerning Cynisoa's weight in the Cup; bat Mr Hunter declares his intention not to nominate for any future meeting of the Wangnnui Jookey Club. Thackeray was again fractious and refused to join tbe field, and delayed the start for half an hour ; but when the flag fell he had three lengths the best of it, with Queen of Tramps next, and Kapo last. As they approached the straight Clifford took np the running and led past the stand just clear of the favourite, with Thackeray next. Rounding the bottom tarn Queen of Tramps went up to the leader, and at the back of the course secured the lead— Kapo at the same time passing Weyland. Whisper was an evcu-money favourite, sto 2 agst Dudu. Whisper was the first to move, but after going a few strides Clifford steadied her, and Lochness took up the running, followed by Bay King three lengths off. Then came Dudu and Whisper together. Favoured with a light weight, Lochnees cut oat the running at a great pace, and passing the stand bad three lengths lead of Bay King, Dudu next, and Whisper whippiDg in. This order was maintained to the back of the course, where Bay King raced up to Lochness, and the pair went on four lengths ahead of Dudu, Vr hisper still lasf. Sweeping roucd the bend approaching I tbe straight the downfall of the favourite was ! loudly proclaimed, but Clifford now began to improve her position, and as \k>j horses turned for home he was in a good position alongside of Dudu, who was at the heels of tbe leaders. The quartette were locked together till within 100 yards of home, when it appeared as if Dudu would again win, but Clifford gave Whisper one cut with the whip, and she responded gamely, winning by a neck from Dudu, who was a length id front of Loehnees, Bay King fourth. Tbe Autumn race meeting of the Palmerston and Shag Valley Jockey Club was held on the 12th under favourable conditions as to weather, the day being beautifully fine, bnt the courf e, which ia somewhat uneven, was dreadfully hard. There was a good attendance, including a considerable contingent of sporting people from town, who were present, indeed, in greater nnmbers than the railway authorities were prepared to accommodate, and the result was that a good many of the excursionists were unable to obtain seats in tbe train on the return journey. The events on the card were got through expeditiously, and although the races were late in starting, time was pulled up admirably in tbe later events the officers — of whom we may fairly single out the secretary, without exposing ourselves to the charge of making invidious distinction); — being well up to their duties.
