A return which has been prepared shows that the expenditure out of Pnblie Works votes for the nine months of the financial year ended 31ab Deoember last was :— Auckland, £51,469 ; the coat of supervision being 3 per cent. Taranaki Hawke's Bay, and WaDganui, £42,992 ; cost of supervision, 2 per cent. Wellington, £11,970; cost of supervision 5 per cent. Nelson and Madborough, £13.832; cost of supervision, 2 per cent. Canterbury. £9987 ; cost of supervision, 1 per cent. Otago, £43 937 ; cost of supervision, 4 per cent. WestUnd, £3543; cost of supervision, 13 per cent. Total. £177.731 ; average percentage for supervision, 3. The expenditure on works other than those provided for by the Public Works votes— including the West port and Greymonth harbour contracts, Mohihinni and Lyell bridges, fee—during the nine months* ended 31st December last was £252,753; and even with that expenditure the cost of supervision was 4 per cent.
