OWAKE.

March 6.— Very successful services In connection with the Catlin's River Presbyterian congregation were held in Purekireki and Tahatika on the 23rd and 24th ult. Able speeches were delivered at the former by Rev. Messrs Dalrymple and Spenoe, and at tbe latter by the Rev. Messrs Dalrymple, Spenoe, and Fairmaid. She annual report read by Rev. fit

M'Laren showed that things in general were in a prosperous condition. The buildings were beautifully decorated with flowers and ferns. The choirs, under the leadership of Mr Taff and Mr John Thomson respectively, acquitted themselves satisfactorily. The ladies deserve grmt credit, for the provisions were both good and plentiful. The usual votes of thanks were passed at the close of tbe meetings. The Harvhst.— The weather of late has been very rough and unsettled. On Sunday last we had a very high wind, which damaged some of the crops a good deal. Harvesting operations have been at a standstill owing to the rain. Coming Settlement.— l hear that Mr M'Curdie, the surveyor, and his party are under orders to. go down to Taukupu, and that they will have probably a couple of years work in that neighbourhood. We shall, no doubt, have the land settled when it is thrown open, as some of it is said to ba of good quality. Settlement is advancing rapidly In all directions. There seems a great demand for land in the Cabin's River district.
