Mr Sxbnb reports under date February 24 s— Harvest work is well under way and moving South. Orders are coming in for really good farm men, bufc tbe reaper and binder has jumped the claims of the ordinary run of harvesters. There is always a heavy demand for dairy people. Married shepherds, station oouples, cooks, flaxmill hands, grooms, and gardeners are moving. The racing fever has set in in town, driving away all signs of hard times. Harvest or no harvest we must have our dissipations. Wages j Station couple* and married shepherds, £65 to £70 ; •ploughmen, 20s ; stackers, 25s to 30s, or by the hour : milkers, 10s, 12s, and 15s ; flax hands, 8s to 19s r cooks, 20s and 255 ; grooms, 15s and 20s ; gardeners. 255, &o.
