ISLA BANK (SOUTHLAND).
January 24.— We are experiencing changeable weather — wet and dry, cold and warm alternately ; but the crops are generally doing well. Oats, tbe main crop in this district, la as a rule good, but harvest will be later than last year, and perhaps not bo bulky. Early-sown turnips are not doing well, but are suffering from the small birds, fly, &c. Kesowing has had to be resorted to in some eases, and they may consequently not prove a good crop A large breadth has only been sown lately, and they are coming up fast and thick, and look well. 1 inlshing shearing and cutting grass seed have been keeping all workers fully engaged. It would appear that labourers are ecarco in thfs district. ThOße who sold their wool are satisfied with tho price received. There are odd lots of old oats both threshod and unthreshed in this district, and there i 3 some demand for them at au advance, and there is consequently but little grumbling with that growling lot the farmers, whose prospects are at present brighter.
