RIVERSDALE.

January 6.— The weather for the past few weeks has been somewhat changeable, alternating from wind to rain and rain to wind. The grain orops, of which there are abundance, are. however, looking remarkably well. Grass is getting slightly parched, while turnips in many instances have bad to be reaowu. Those in drills would seem, however, to have esoaped the destroying Influence of the fly. The Holidays.— Holiday-making is now fairly over. The anuuU Christmas tree was a pronounced success, thanks to the untiring efforts of Messrs Holman, W. Gee, and committee. The former cannot be too highly eulogised for the assistance they render at these gatherings and the popularity attendant on their musical productions. The annual picnic, which was held near Waimca Uomstead on New Year's Day, was unfortunately not the success whioh everyone wishes for this favourite outing. The weather all the forenoon was cloudy and threatening, and about mid day rain commenced and gradually became worse as the day advanced. The committee however, carried out the sports programme, disagreeable though it was, and the youngsters seemed to enjoy the fun immensely, notwithstanding the rain, which was such a source of vexation to their elders, ladies especially, who, for the most part were got up for queen's weather. There being a large surplus of cakes, these were forwarded to the Caversham Industrial School, and gratefully acknowledged by Mr Titchener. „,,,«. Church.— A congregational meeting was new last night, when there was a fair attendance, Eev. W. P. Brown presiding. The balance sheet for the year just ended was read and adopted. For the incoming committee 13 gentlemen were nominated, and a vote will be taken during the month. The elders chosen (Messrs A. H. Aitken and William Stewart) are to be ordained on Sunday next.— [Arrived too late for last issue. — Ed.]
