Williams landed three large fish with the minnow, and the other members of the party got one each with bait. Meesrs M'Callum and Anderson had very fair baskets in the Waitati, Mr Anderson's take of 12 fish weighing 81b. It was too stormy and windy for successful angling on the Leith. It is reported that 9d per lb will be paid for trout at Kingston intended for the Melbourne market. The Wellington Acclimatisation Society send a further shipment of trout ova as an experiment in long distanoe transit. Meßsrß £. Porter and W. R. Maddiaon had good sport at Hall's Greek, Southbridge, on Saturday evening last (saya the Times), Mr Porter landing four flah weighing 16Mb, HAlb, 6}lb, and 3Mb, and Mr Maddiion one fish weighing lQfJib. All ths fish were in beautiful condition. The Southland Acclimatisation Society's curator, Mr A N. Campbell, recently liberated 5000 young trout in the Waimumu stream, near Mataura, and on Friday he placed a similar number in the Waihopai near One Tree Point. Up to the present Mr Campbell has liberated 45,000 this season in the New River, Makarewa Otamete, Ofcautau, Waimatuku, Waimumu, and Waihopai streams, and had it not been for the long continued bad weather the distribution would have been considerably greater. As soon as the elements are favourable he will proceed to Te Anau for the purpose of placing 20,000 in the waters of that lake.— Southland Times, A meeting of the Oamaru branch of tho Acclimatisation Society was held on Friday. A communication was received from Mr John Young, Kurow, asking if the society was paying anything for shags heads this year. He had seen a black shag devour four young trout in about two minutes, and a shag that had been shot had been found to contain 11 young trout from 2in to 4in in length. It was mentioned that the society was paying Is per head in the breeding season, and 6d per head at other times. The suggestion was thrown out that fishermen at the Waitaki ehould enter their takes in the books kept there for the purpose, as also the state of the water and the weather at the time of fishing. If thia were carried out it would be a groat advantage to trout fishermen generally. Accounts were passed for payment. Dr de Lautour mentioned the fact that New Zoal&nd grayling were to be obtained ia the West Coast rivers, and it would he a good thing if they could bo introduced to this side of the island. The fish gave good fporfc, and were said to be good table fieh. It was d o cid6d to write and obtain information with regard to the fish. Mr Stock said Mr Howden, of Hnmpden, intended to liberate about 400 burn trout in the Kakanui, This is the angling time of the year, when brooks run swiftly through shady dells, and anglers swing the rod over the bubbling waters, and sometimes fail to strictly adhere to the truth when relating their adventures. Just before the holidays a gentlemen who holds an important position in ono of the city banks hold a confidential business talk with one of the bank messengers, and entered into an arrangement with him to the effect that he, the messenger, wae to receive a c^nt apiece for each and every angle worm he brought in. Next day the boy, hin eyes beaming, and hia intelligent features wearing an expression of contented proyparily, wbispernd to a friend of hi 3in tho bank tb ;t he had struck a worm mine, and thrvt the first shovelful of earth he turned up contained 200 worms This, at the rate of two dollars a thovel, would, he anticipated, enable him to purchase a corner lot for his mother, and take her to Paris in tho fall. When lhodayof delivery came, ho appeared before the party of the second partwi'h his first instalment of worms, 8000 in all, neatly made up in lOdol packages, 1000 worms to the package. The ghastly look on tho anglor'a faco wten bis equirming purchase was presented him brought tears to the eyes of his companions. And when the messenger begged him to count them quick, and. see that

they were correct, bo he might deliver the balance, he called feebly for a glass of water and a fan. He has repudiated the contract, bat should the matter fail to reaoh a compromise, and be brought into the courts, it will go hard with him, for the law is dearly on the Bide of the messenger.
