VIOLENT STORMS IN AUSTRALIA. (Per Phess Association.) Sydney, October 25. Violent thunderstorms prevailed throughout the colony yesterday, and telegraphic communication with Queensland, Victoria, and South Australia was temporarily interrupted. In some parts the storm raged with the severity of a tornado. Melbourne, October 25. Terrific gales have been raging on this coast for the past two days, and on shore a considerable amount of damage has been done. At Brunswick, one of the city's suburbs, the roof was torn off a large grain store, and a wall blown out. The schooner Aquilla foundered at Port Melbourne. Great damage is reported from the country districts. Adelaide, October 25. Violent gales blew yesterday, and slight damage resulted to the shipping. The tide was the highest ever known in South Australia. Out of 17 fishing vessels which were lying at anchor at Kingston 10 were either blown ashore daring the height of the gale or sunk. Wellington, Ootober 26. The indications of Mr C. 8. Wragge, Government Meteorologist of Brisbane, that squally weather would be experienced between the meridians of Adelaide and Wellington have been fully justified so far as the latter place ia concerned. For the last eight or ten days the wind has been very high, and yesterday it increased to almost hurricane force with heavy rain. It blew with increased fury throughout the night, but to-day has taken off somewhat, though a strong breeze is still blowing. No damage is reported. Gbeymouth, October 24. A terrific gale of almost hurricane force waa blowing the greater part of yesterday afternoon and part of the night. No particulars of any damago are reported as yet. Very heavy rain has set in.
