ANALYSIS OF SOILS AND ASSAYING MINERALS.

To the miner the necessity of obtaining an' l analysis oianymineralshemaydiscoveris so forcibly I brought home to him that he has no choice but to i obtain, the services of a practical analyst before he can take any steps toward* making use of his find. Not bo the farmer, however, who, though he freely admits, as a rule, the value of obtaining a knowledge of the nature and capabilities of his land, can nevertheless make use of it, though in all probability to nothing like the same advantage as he would do were he aware of its constituents and actual capabilities and wants. With a viow to encouraging the obtaining of analyses of soils, and manures therefore we have made arrangements with Mr Frank M. Allan, a practical analyst, with satisfactory Home credentials, to undertake work of this nature for constituents of the Witness at special rates. We shall place correspdndents in direct communication with Mr Allan, j and all fees will be payable to him. Samples (carriage paid) with the necessary fee, addressed to Mr Allan, care of Editor Otago Witness, will receive prompt attention.
