DEXTER is a rich, dark-brown colour, with black points ; stands 16j hands high ; has splendid action ; le a good walker ; an easy and rapid trotter ; has grand bone, and docile temper ; is a sure foal getter, and has been only once beaten in the prize ring. DBXTBR'cj sire is the nofcpd horee Talisman, bred in Canterbury by Mr J. W. Mallock, got by the famed Traducer; dam, Azucena, by Towton— Meg Merrilees; by St. George— Gipsy ; St. George, by St. George— Whisker mare, well known in New South Wales as Single's Mare, the dim and grand-dam of noted horses. DEXTER'S dam is Gentle Annie, the far-famed trotting mare (well known both in Canterbury and Otago) imported from Australia. For Bpeed and as a weight carrier she was unexcelled in her day. In 1865, on the Papanui road, Gentle Annie, with 13st up, won a four-mile trotting race in 12min 403 ec, beating Orlando by 175 yards. Orlando carried Bst 71b. and had the master rider Bob Ray up. The Stakes wore £100.- [See Press, July 26th, 1866.] DBXTBR is the sire of the following trotters :— Robin Hood, Killaruey, Lucy, Voltigeur, Dexter, Sultan, Columbine, Celerity, Taipo, and the renowned Princess, the winner of the Exhibition and Carnival Trots at the Exhibition meeting in 1889. The Otago Daily Times' report of final heat of the Carnival Trot, one mile :— -" Princess passed the others as though they were standing, taking the lead as the half-mile post was passed, aud winning with the utmO3t ease by five lengths. Time, 2raln 381660. Calista, out of a sister to Dexter, holds the N.Z. record for two aud three miles. Robin Hood trotted once first and twice second in one day at Lancaster Park, in July 1890. The Referee reports that Otaio, .half-brother to Dexter, taken from New Zealand to Melbourne by Mr Rutherford, and thence to England by Mr Saville, is the finest specimen of a hunter ever seen on an English hunting field. From the above it will be seen that Dexter is one of the best sires in the colonies. For all mares sold or exchanged, the owner afc the time of first service will be held responsible.
