The Chairman gave notice of motion to the effect that a special meeting of the council be held on September 17 to frame bye-laws regulating the width of tires of wheel* to be used on the country road, the only difference between tbe recently passed bye-law and the proposed new one being tbe substitution of " five".for " f6nr."and " eight'! for " six" horses to be used in drawing certain vehicles. BPBeiAI. MSKTING. An adjourned special meeting of the council was held, the same members being present, to oonsider annual balance sheet, which was duly approved and the chairman' authorised to sign tbe same. POISONED GRAIN. Mr Mitchell, agent for Andrew's poisoned grain, interviewed the counoil with a view to solioiting orders, Crs Glover and Bobertbok, who had tried tbe grain, spoke in high terms of its efficacy, and tbe council promised, as tbe season was passed, to give it a trial next year. Tbe counoil then adjourned. Mr Fyke, in an addreeß in our advertising oolumnß this week, announces his intention of stan'dinj? for the Mount Ida district at the forthcoming election. Mr Fyke's views are set out in full in the address, to which we refer our readers in the Mount Ida and Dtrafltan districts. The Royal Commission appointed to investigate the charges made by Dr Batchelor respect* ing the sanitary condition of the Dunedin Hospital was opened on Wednesday afternoon.
