Our Auckland correspondent telegraphs : — " I hear there is likely to be further trouble with the Operative Shoemakers' Union who are engaged in preparing a fresh ' statement ' which will involve further demands upon the manufacturers." The Amalgamated Shearers' and Labourers' Union in Otago and Canterbury is reported to number 1200, of which 500 are in the Waimate district. Auckland, August 11. At a meeting of the Butchers' Employes' Union it was decided to adopt further extreme measures with jhe boycotted master butchers who have so far successfully defied alike the Master Butchers' Union and the Employes' Union. August 12. j The fishermen of this port made demands upon the fishmongers for an increased rate of pay, threatening to strike if not granted. The demand was complied with, and an increase of 6d per dozen for schnapper is being given. Invbbcabqill, August 13. At a meeting of the Southland Trades and Labour Union to-night the political platform formulated by the Maritime Council was adopted, three planks being added thereto — viz., abolition of the Legislative Council, the establishment of a State bank with the control of the note issue of the colony, and, pending the establishment of a State bank, that the funds of the colony be distributed amoDg all the New Zealand banks. It was resolved to urge the Southland members to support the labour bills now beiore Parliament.
