Melbourne, August 13.
An attempt has been made by an incendiary to destroy the Bijou Theatre by fire. The stage, which was saturated with kerosene, was found to be alight, but the alarm was quickly raised and the lames extinguished. This is the second attempt within a week to set fire to the theatre.
Sydney, August 13.
Mr Witheford has sold Scbtty's mine at Coromandel to an influential syndicate. A company is being registered with a capital of £100,000 in £1 shares.
