LATE MINING.

DUNEDIN GOLD DREDGING COMPANY.

The ordinary general meeting of shareholder!! of the Dunedin Gold Dredging Company (Limited) was neld in the company's offioe, Exchange Court, on Monday, 21st July. There was a good attendance of shareholders, the chair being oooupied by Mr Thomas Brown. . , The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, said shareholders were to be congratulated at the result of the last six months' operations. As would be seen from the report the directors were enabled to pay dividends during that period amounting to over a 7 per cent., or equal to 54 per cent, for the year, and but for the heavy item of alterations and repairs would have paid another 10 per cent. The dredge had undergone extensive alterations and repairs, The hull had been overhauled, pontoons lengthened and repaired, and new gold-saving tables and cylinders, &o. had been added at a cost of over £600. In addition to this a complete system of electric light for the safety of the men and facility of working had been effeoted. The dredgemaster's report now says :— " That the dredge is working splendidly, also the electric light, and not a particle of gold is lost by the new gold-saving appliances." The company's prospeots were very good as last week's return was 550z Bdwt with better ground ahead. When it was remembered that a return of 13oz per week paid all expenses, it was apparent that a continuation of present yields would prove the payableness of the property. Messrs Thomas Brown, R. Brownlle, W. Scoular, Charles M'Queen, and Robert M'Laren were elected directors, and Mr Alexander Bartleman auditor.

This is very expeditious work, and will enable Mr Joseph Sparrow, who has the contract for the pipes, to have them completed well within the contract time. The manager of tbe company will have before that time everything in readineßs for laying the pipes, therefore there wilt be no delay in getting to work Immediately they are on the ground.
