July 21.— TheY.M.M.I. Sooiety room was filled to overflowing ou Monday night, the majority of the audience being ladies. The subject of the evening was an essay by Mr Heokscher on " Lies and Liars," which occupied 20 minutes in dulivery. The chairman then invited criticism, which wai taken in h'aud by Messrs Whitefleld, M'Farlaue, Rev. W.
