To Reid & Gray. Totara Estate, Jane 30, 1890. In reply to your memo, of 27th inst,, asking my opinion of the work done by your plough at the Digging Plough Trial, held here on Tuesday last, I muab say I was agreeably surprised to see your " Converted Digger " do suoh gpleudid work, considering the dry state of the grouud and the tough oouoh grass it had to work in—the latter it buried completely out of eight and left the furrows broken up into a fine tilth. There was no doubt in the mind of any of the farmers present that it did superior work to either of the other three diggers on the ground, and the draught did not appear to be any heavier on the hones. You are conferring a great boon on farmers by making their old double furrow ploughs convertible into " Diggers" at suoh a reasonable cost. (Signed) John Macphbbson, Manager of N.Z. and A.L. Company's Totara Estate. To B»n> and Gray. Papakaio, May 30, 1890. I have much, pleasure in informing yon the two Digging Ploughs have given me great satisfaction. They break up the ground so well that very little harrowing is required. lam working them with four horses eaoh, and doing four aores per day with each plough. lam going to sow with the drill, and am oonsidering whether I will harrow any before sowing, as the ground is so well pulverised already. If Ido it will be only one turn of the harrows. My men say that they make a muoh better job, and do not leave the furrows on edge in lea as the imported one does. (Signed) Donald Boebhs.
