The past week has been characterised hy a genoral rain all over Canterbury, and Otago and which has been most bsnefiolal, as the land in some places North was so dry that ploughing operations hart to be suspended. This break, however, will admit of operations being returned and sowing put in full ewing. >
Wheat.— This important cereal still commands the attention of speculators, and where no alteration locally has taken place prices elsewhere have firmed considerably ai advices from Home gave buyers encouragement. Cable nows during the past lew days has not been obtainable on account of the cable being broken, so that we are unable to say howthings are at the moment, still we Bee nothlDg to keep prices from being maintained. We quote prime milling up to 3b 6Jd ; ordinary, 3s 2d to 3s 4d ; inferior and fowls' feed, 2s to 2s 9d. Oats.— lt is with regret we have to report no change in the market for these, as Australia still keeps low, and without any prospect of improving. On the spot a few sales have been made, but to push them means accepting less thau market values, and spoiling it for others, which is a thing that ought to be avoided as rates are low enough without making them lower. 'J he very priraest milling are really only worth Is 4d, and ordinary Is 3£d ; heavy, brigho fied being Is 3d to Is 3§d ; ordinary. Is 2d to Is 3d ; offcolour and long sorts, Is to Is' 2Jd. Barley.— No sales yet transpiring. Chaff .—Supply equal to demand, and prime oaten sheaf is only worth £2 ss ; ordinary, £1 15b to £2. Potatoes.— The demand for them I« somewhat better, with more inquiry and 'shipping orders coming more freely. We quote Derwents at up to f'3 9s 6d. Seeds.- No immediate sales are taking place, but there are many inquiries whioh will some time or other result in sales and prices will rule high, aud as the season advances a firmer tone may prevail Cocksfoot : This is a seed whioh is rapidly coming Into more prominence, and as prices have advanced at Home, so have they here, as large quantities are being shipped hence. Quotations: Heavy bright seed, 4d to 4sd , medium, |3jd to 4d. Timothy : There is no -.change io far in it. Clovers': |3atnpies and quotations on application, *
