CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE.

Report (per N. P. Meyer, secretary) for week ending Friday, July 11, 1890 :— Uable adviceß from England are somewhat ' conflicting as to the wheat market ; though there would appear to have been a slight rise in values, the local market has not been affected, and prices are unohanged. Oats are being offered more freely, farmers having apparently given up hopes of seeing any material improvement in value In the face of the large stocks down South. In some cases growers are acoeptiug a ■hade under quotations to effect a sale. Barley : No alteration can be noted in this cereal. Beans have seen a fair business for good samples. Pease: Boilers have the usual demand, whilst feed sorts are totally neglected. Ryegrass i The market here will be supplied largely by imported seed, stocks of locally grown being smaller than has been known for years ; prices will doubtless rule high. Cocksfoot is also within narrow compass, and inquiries with the near approach of spring sowing are numerous, both for prime heavy and lower grade parcels. Potatoes : Heavy shipments have gone forward to the Australian market during the week, and some anxiety Is felt as to the returns. Growers here are inclined to make sales for future delivery, disliking the prospects of the market. Dairy produce i Few transactions have come under notice, and prices paid can hardly prove remunerative. Our quotations for the week are as follows :— Wheat : Tuscan, 3s Id; pearl, 2s Hd; Hunter's, 2s 9d to 2s lOd f chick wheat (whole), 2s 6d ; broken, 2s Id to 2a 4d. On Saturday last Mr Thomas Green, instructed by the Sohool Commissioners of Otago, offered at Gore a number of education reserves for lease for a term of 14 years by publio auction. The Mataura Ensign states that there wai a very large attendance of buyers and others interested in the sale, and the majority of the lots brought considerably above the upset. Following is a list of the lots sold at auction, and since the sale all the few lots passed in have been disposed of at the upset lave twos— WBNDOH DISTRICT. Belug run 193 a, Otama.
