LAND BOARD.
The weekly meeting of the Land Board held on Wednesday was attended by Messrs J, P. Maltland (chief commissioner), J. Duncan, H. Clark, J. W. Thornton, and W. Dallas,
Laudeb.— Mr J. Alexander asked tbat B. J. Alexander and himself be allowed time to pay up arrears due by them on their perpetual lease areas.— lt was agreed to allow applicants one month to make arrangements for .payment of arrears, otherwise tha board would have no other course thau to forfeit the leases. Kubiwao.— Rhoda W. Williamson applied for permission to reside on her farm in blook 111, Kuriwao, instead of on her small grazing run in blook VIII of that district, being within the prescribed distance. —It was resolved to allow applicant to reside on her leasehold farm, as requested.
.Nbnthobn.— Mr Surveyor Barron forwarded a revised valuation of improvements effected by the various occupant* in the townships of Nenthorn.— It was agreed that the sections In block* I, 11, and 111, township of Nenthorn, be offered for sale with valuation for improvements aiper Sir B&rroa's list, subject to the approval of the Governor.
Otokxa.— Mr F. Paris wrote asking to have seotlon lof 29, blook V, Otokia, opened for seleotion. This section was held under license under "The Publlo Reserves Aot 1881 " by ths late David Ktrkley, and Mrs Kirkley was desirous, of retaining the land.— Referred to rauger for a report as to whether it it advisable to give notice to licensee, with the view of opening the section for settlement.
GiMMiRBURN.— Mr James Soott, of Glmmerburn, wrote asking that a revaluation be made of his deferred-payment section 16, block VI, Glmmerburn, with a view of a further reduotion being made in the prioe.— The board agreed that they could not reopen the question of revaluation, the reductions made by the board havlog been approved by the Minister.
CLARBNDOif.— The board's salesman suggested tbat section 24, blook XI, Clarendon, lately ocoupied by J. Davlet under the village homestead special settlement conditions, be notified as ordinary rural land at 30b per aore.— Government recommended accordingly.
Shotovbr.— A lefct°r was read from Mr H. B. Smith, on behalf of Mr Thomas M'Donnell, asking to be allowed valuation for improvements on sections 13 and 14, blook X, Shotover, held for some time by him on agricultural lease rent, but which it was recently reiolved to offer uuder "pastoral license. —Referred to Ranger M'Kenzie fora report.
Sutton.— Mr W. A. Scott aiked leave to reside on his freehold seotion 10, blook XIII, Strath-Taierl, instead of his small grazing* Run-No. 45, section 2A. blook 111, Sutton.— lt was agreed to allow Scott to reside on his freehold.
Table Hill.— Mr James Prentice asked leave to reside on his deferred-payment section 6, block X, Table Hill, instead of on his small grazing Bun 55. section 1, blook X, Table Hill, the land* being contiguous.—lt wat resolved to allow applicant to reside on the seotlon referred to. ; Catlins,— Mr J. H. M'Donald surrendered the license to oooupy seotlon 37, block IV, Oatlins, on behalf of himself and brother, as they could not re,tein it at the present terms.— The surrender was accepted. t Applications.— The following applications were approved!— For rural land on perpetual lease : Chas. F. Dunnet, section 13, blook XIII, Greenvale; BHza Mapp, section 8, block IX, Waipahi; J. H. Laurenejon, lection 93. block XI II, Moeraki. For rural land on deferred-payment: Redpath Glllespie, spotlon29, t)look IX, Warepa.: To capitalise deferred-payment land: George Mill (per Mr O. Martin), section 5, block IX, Tarras. , Toi complete purchase : Adam Sutherland,) seotlon 3, blook V, Dunbaok. To transfer perpetual lease: J. O. Eraser, section 5, blook VII, Strath-Taierl, to Isabella M'Rae; William Lunam, i ection 17, blook XIII, Moeraki, to John Lefevre.— William' Tullooh, who 'applied to prospect far gold < ver a length of one and a-half miles In the bed pf tho '. tokomairiro river at Glenore, outside a mining district, wa* granted a lioenae for six months.— Joseph Smith! applied fora renewal of license, under too Coal Miners' Act, of two aores in section 4, blook IX, Kaitangata, and George Turnbull applied for a renewal Of lease of tection 30, block XIII, Blackttone. —Smith's license was renewed for three years at previous fee, and Turnbull'* lease was granted for 31 years at 5b per aore per annum, with 6d per ton royalty. ■■ > 1 ITkviot.— Mary M'Phenon applied fora lease instead of a lloenie of 10 acre* in block 11, Tevlot.— Lease to Issue for 31 years at 5s per aore rent, with 6d per ton royalty. - ' Chown Distbict.— James Gore applied to lease 30 acres couth of section 1, block I, Crown diitriot.— Referred to Banger M'Kenzie for a report. j Oabdboha.— Sew' Hoy 'applied for a license to searob, for coal over two area* of about- 640 acre* each at Oardrona.-^The board agreed tbat they had no power to grant alioense to searoh for coal, but they would afford applicant what protection they could. Mobbaki.— Messr* J. r Reid and Son forwarded rent due by Mr W. Lennan on section 17, blook XIII, Meeraki, to 30th June last, and a»ked the board to rescind forfeiture of his perpetual lease.— AcoordJngly. ■ "'• ' Glemomaru.— The Chief Surveyor forwarded a plan of lands recently surveyed in blook IX, Glenomaru, with the view of the lands being dealt with,
—Consideration of the plan was deferred until the lurvey of the adjoining land comes in. , hummock.— Mr W. D. Smith, on behalf of Mr Henry S Orbell. aiked that bis small grazing run OeoMons 1 to 5, block II) might, be forfeited on the ground that he was unable to comply with the re*ldence clause ofthe aot. He asked that the improvements be valued and the run re-offered, subject to revaluation to be paid- by-incoming lessee.— lt was agreed to forfeit the lease, for non-residence of the lessee on hf« leasehold in terma of the aot, the ranger to make valuation of Improvements.
