The holder of the Queensland championship trophy and title (Mr K. Mar) having 'been challenged for the same by Mr G. S. Foord, a match was recently played between them By agreement it consisted of eight games, each player taking ulternately the black anri white Bides of four openings, two of whioh— the " Souter " Bnd " GlHflgow "—were chosen by Mr Foord. and two by Mr Mar— the " Fife " and " Lairu and Lady." Following is the result of the match : -Mar, 7 ; Foord, 1.

The return mafcih between the South rnwrcargtll Olub and Messrs Kingland's employes was played in Mr Raeside's restaurant at Invercargill. • The following was the result, Mr Patterson playing for the employes with the consent of the club, of which he is a member: —
At the conclusion of the match the club was entertained by Kingsland's employes. The usual congratulatory speeches were made, and votes of thanks were passed to Mr Baeside for the use of the room, and to Mr J. H. Whittaker for acting as referee.
Mr Wyllie has gone to Brisbane to play his matoh of 20 games with Mr Mar. Juit previous to his leaving Melbourne be received letters from Mr J. P. Beed, checker ohampion of America, and Mr Dunlop, draughts editor of Turf, Field, and Farm, challenging hlm'to meet the former at Chicago, on the following' conditions t— 1. Stakes to be SOOdol a-side. 2. Matoh te consist of 30 games at restricted openings. 3. The 15 openings to be played to be drawn from a bag containing the names of a larger number! Mr Wyllie intends to write by the next opportunity via San Franclsoo, in* timating'his readiness to aooepfc conditions 1 and 2,' but absolutely declining to entertain condition 3. He will suggest, in its stead, that the 15 openings to be played shall be definitely seleoted beforehand in the proportion of eight to be named by Mr Beed to seven to be named by himself. He proposes, also, to remain in Australia long enough to allow of his receiving an answer to his communication.
About 30 competitors have entered for the handicap tournament promoted by the Auokland Draughts Olub. The players are divided equally into two sections, and the best five soorers in eaoh section form a final section to compete for the prizes. The management of the tourney was placed in the hands of Mr Gtmtborp. The Boston Weekly Globe mentions that Mr H Z. Wright, who expressed a desire' some time ago to make arrangements for a professional tour through Australia, had been giving exhibitions of his skill at Pittaburg, He hud played a total of 200 games against all comers, of whioh he had won 140, lost 5, and drawn 55.
