The palm wai ultimately given to the former. The hare was only half-way to the esoapes when Lochiel was on him and turned, allowing Hard Times to get in. A good fight then ensued, but the hare at last got through the fenoe, and Hard Times was adjudged down. Aedroug ua.ro was detpa.to.iied. for the .succeeding
pair. Melbourne Tom was quiokest from the slips and turned, when Marguerita, got in and also turned, bringing about the previous Order of things. The latter led up, but was soon displaced by his opponent, who thereafter did excellent work and won, when the hare escaped through the wire fence. A weak hare was sent ont for Banger and Ivanhoe, and within a hundred yards from the slip* it was caught, the result of the course being in favour of Ivanhoe, Flimsby led up from Oroydon to a strong hare and turned. Maintaining his advantage, he again turned when pnss escaped. • Qaiokstep ran with Miss Nancy, the latter leading up and' turning. Most exciting work ensued, the principal part of it being done by Miss Nanoy. In the next round Last Chance easily put Market Maid down, and in the following contest Rotomahana had all the best of it against Hichmond. - Vixen won both in the run up and in the workings from Squib, who got in only onoe. The hare escaped. Penanoe made hie way quiokest up to the bars and turned when near the escapes, letting Minion in momentarily.; but Penance was soon in again, and onoe more turned. Penanoe and Yellow Boy (3 to 3 on) were slipped ia excellent style, the former leading up with a couple of lengths to the good and turning the hare, but still retaining the running.
