At the close of the first day's play in the match between the Australians and Leicestershire the Australians had lost four wickets for 85 runs. The Australians have lost nine wickets for 271 runs. Barrett made 45, Jones 28, Blackham 58, Charlton (not out) 70. The seventh wicket added 110 runs. The weather wa3 fine and the wicket good, but the attendance of the public was small. The. first innings of the Australians closed for 276 runs. Ghurton carried his bat out for 75.
