To the miner the necessity of obtaining an analysis of any minerals he may discover is so forcibly brought home to him that lie has uo choice but to obtain the services of a practical analyst before he can take any steps toward* making use of his find. Not so the farmer, however, who, though he treely admits, as a rule, the value of obtaining a knowledge of the nature and capabilities of his laud, can nevertheless make use of it, though in all probability to nothing like the same advantage as he would do were he aware of its constituents and actual capa bilities and wants. With a view to encouraging the obtaining of analyses of soils, and ii.auures therefore we have made arrangements with Mr Frank M. AUan, a practical analyat, with satisfactory Home credentials, to undertake work of this nature for constituents of the Witness at special rates. We shall place correspondents in direct communication with Mr Allan, and all fees will be payable to him. Samples (carriage paid) with the neoessary fee, addressed to Mr Allan, care of Editor Otago Witness, will receive prompt attention.
